Friday Favourites #1

Welcome to Salsabuggout's first Friday Favourites!

1. This braided headband! The tutorial is right here.

{via BeetleBailey}

This headband looks so simple and fun to make! Plus, it looks cool (and warm). I'm thinking I'll make it with rainbow yarn. That'd be cool.

2. This pencil shaving collar!
{via greenaccordion on Etsy}

I would totally wear this forever if I bought it. It's so cool.

3.
{via Sycamore Hill on Etsy}
So neat. The spoon looks so deep and lovely. Plus it's hilarious and very suitable for me (I eat cerealEVERY morning).

4.
{via Peg and Awl on Etsy}

There's nothing like a warm bath. If I had this I'd probably never get out of the tub. My mum'd come in to check on me and find a pink prune sitting in an empty bathtub.

5. I found this on 'Lazy Explorers'.
{via Ghost Ship}

This is THE most amazing blouse ever.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this post. I'm not sure if I'm going to make this a habit, but I'm trying it out. We'll see!

Have a great Friday!
P.S. I've had one post a day for the last week!  YAY!

Etsy and Haircut.

So I got a haircut last week, and it's pretty short, like old hair minus 4 inches. But I'm slowly getting used to it. And it looks okay I think.

Also, I have an Etsy account. I've had one for a while, but just recently decided to post some items on it. Just one actually, but more to come. Here's the link.

YAY!

Now listen to this song.

Goodbye for now.

Okay, a lot of things.

Well, I've been neglecting this blog for a while. So, a few things to keep up with:
- it is no longer summer. (BLAH)
- I have a Chemistry lab that I should be doing.
- I changed the name, and address of my blog. (apparently 'Peaches en Regalia' means stripper in Zappa language, and I don't want a bad wrap. Aka, no creepos looking at my blog because they thought it was porno..etc.)
- the new name of my blog is an anagram of 'Augusta's Blog', also, salsa is delicious, I love bugs, and my father has gout. I thought the name was suitable.

SO
What have I been doing for the last, what, 3 weeks? Nothing much. Although a recent addition to this list is procrastinating. I always find a way not to do homework. I really, really, really need to work on this... I know.

OH! OH! By the way, my beans grew into pods, and I harvested them. I now have a bowl of sick rainbow-coloured beans. I'll have to boil them or something.

ALSO ALSO!
I went to my cousin Luke's wedding last weekend. It was apple-themed, and all the centrepieces were glass apples. They were FILLED WITH EPIC JELLY BALL THINGS. So, basically my extremely mature extended family and I had a small epic jelly ball fight. But, that's besides the point; I decided to bring the centrepiece home, becasue that's what you do right? So, guess what I used it for? A GREENHOUSE OF COURSE! Yep, I got me some sweet wildfleurs started from seeds growin' in my glass apple. Take a yourself a looksee!!

Can you believe how much they've grown in a week?? They must be doing some serious growing. I'm impressed.

And Finally: I thinks I'll leave you with this funky song. I've been listening to it lots lately.

COOKIES!!!

Today, In my late August boredom, I decided to make cookies. I commenced my mini adventure by cycling up to No Frills for some brown sugar, and chocolate chips. YOU CAN'T HAVE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES WITHOUT CHOCOLATE CHIPS!! Then, upon returning, I ran to my best friend, Mr. record player, and put on the record that I just purchased: Paul McCartney and Wings- Band on the Run. Good record. After that, I immediately consulted my handy dandy JOY OF COOKING and asked it to give me a recipe for chocolate chip cookies. It did just that, and now I will show you how I made them.
(This is a really crappy picture)

First, I preheated the oven to 375ºF.
Then, I Whisked together:
1 cup + 2 tablespoons of flour
1/2 teaspoon of baking soda

Then, I used my beater, and beated me some sugar, and butter. MMMMM.
8 tablespoons (1 stick) of butter, softened. *I used salted because it's better.
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
(cream them together till fluffy)
*this is where you are allowed to snack, because once we add the eggs, there's salmonella swimming everywhere in that bowl.*
(again, crappy picture)

Then I added some egg, and vanilla, and a bit of salt.
(I really should have omitted the salt because I used salted butter, but whatevs)
1 large egg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

(This picture turned out red. Heheh THE COOKIES FROM HELL!!!)

Then I added my flour mix from before to this buttery mix, and CREATED A MONSTER!!!
I beated them up too. :)

THEN
I added to chocolate chips:
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

And poured a little bowl for myself. :)

I decided next that I would have to grease the pan. (although the cookies still stuck, so pile on that butter)
(grease 2 cookie sheets)

Then I dropped tablespoonfuls of dough onto the greased sheet. *put less dough per ball than I did here, unless you want mutant conjoined cookies*
Then place them in the oven for:
  8-10 minutes
Waiting...
THE BUZZER SOUNDS!!
Then I took my cookies out, and let them dry... I mean cool.. :P
FINITO!!
YUMMY YUMMMMMMY!

All Gone. P:

Here's my cookie soundtrack.

Enjoy!

'What's your name?' 'The Doctor' 'DR WHO?'

Oh yeah. Nerd Party.
Doctor Who happens to be the best sci-fi series out there. And it's British, making it 100000000000000000 times better than any American show. In my opinion, David Tennant was the best doctor. Undoubtedly. But Christopher Eccleston was pretty good too (though he was only around for 1 season). Here are some epic pictures of my favourite time lord (He's the only time lord. Jeez)

UUHHH ISN'T DAVID TENNANT THE AWESOMEST???
Also, Rose Tyler is undoubtedly the doctor's best assistant. Except Billie Piper is now a pop star. Which turns me off slightly, but whatevs. She is a great Rose, and I'm not one for following celebrity gossip :P

This is an Ood from the Episode 'Planet of the Ood'

These are all the past doctors, Christopher Eccleston being the first doctor in the last row, then David Tennant, then Matt Smith. I am definitely prejudiced against the most recent season. Which means I've seen one episode, and um, I strongly dislike what Dr Who has turned into. But I won't dwell on the present, I'll keep my head in the past most amazing seasons!!

ALSO
CBC used to play Dr Who. Now they don't. I'm pissed. It's only on the Space Channel now. Well guess what? I DON'T HAVE CABLE.  Not that I'd want to watch the most recent season anyways...

ALSO
I want this.

And lastly, I'll leave you with these.

Compare the two. Which do you like better? I can't decide...

The Greatest Band Alive

As of now, that's how I feel. The Whitest Boy Alive is a four-piece rock/electronic/dance group based in Berlin. Now you got the lowdown. I have to get a certain feeling when I listen to music, that's how I distinguish between the artists I love, the okay ones, and the pukish ones. Every song by this band makes me melt inside, along with triggering my long lost dance reflex. :) Also the basslines are amazing.... and fun to learn (if not challenging in some cases :))
Again, I can't just tell you how amazing they are. I have to show you.

And this is the band drinking milk...
...and wearing wigs...obviously.
Buy Dreams. And then buy Rules. And then listen to them... obviously.

A speck of Beck

What the hell am I talking about? No, I'm not talking about the near beer, although I could drink that if I wanted to, not that I want to. (ew, nasty stuff)
I'm talking about Beck. Bek David Campbell. Scientologist, Musical artist, and overall cool dude. If you think I'm wrong, check this junk out.
and this...

AAND THIS
and this. (Last one I promise)

Or just listen.
I just love his manic way of shifting styles. One minute he's a funky electronica dude, the next he's picking out delicate tunes on his acoustic.  I'm not sure which Beck I love better. But the one thing I am sure of is this: There's no one like Beck.
Buy his music.

BICYCLE!

Bikes have been infesting my brain as of late (pffft what a strange occurrence). Last night I went for a road ride with my dad. I took my mum's bike, which is a nice change to my current single-speed Norco commuter.
But this is about to change. For my 16th birthday my parents have decided to get me a (second hand- but like new) single speed. But that's not all. Aside from being a gorgeous bike, it is also affixed with a flip-flop hub, which allows me to channel my inner hipster, and ride it as a fixie whenever I feel like it!
So while anticipating the arrival of my new velo, I've been reading 1984 by George Orwell. Just getting in the mood for a new school year, giving my vocabulary a chance to rejuvenate. Grade 11 in 17 days!

Thinking of back to school, I was checking out the klean kanteen website.. I know, I know, corporate advertising, but I've had my kanteen for at least 3 years, and albeit the paint chips and dents from my abuse, and it has served me well. Quality is something to commend. Anyways, my water bottle has a plastic lid, and being the plastic snob that I am, I was pleased to see that they had introduced a lid that has a stainless steel base, meaning that my H2O doesn't ever have to touch plastic. I know that seems a tad pretentious, but it kind of defeats the purpose if one's lid is leaching gunk into the water...

Well, the sun's come out, I'm goin' outside. :)

Just Listen.

This song makes my heart melt. I think Plants and Animals are probably my most favourite band right now. They are based in Montréal, Canada (of course) and have two amazing albums. Check out their website. Then listen to this.

Then watch this. And then watch all the other videos.

Vegetarians are Secret Cannibals.

I'm really bored.
Summer is raining.
No answer on any phone.
Today is one of those days where you feel like doing something, but nothing appeals to you.
I've just been surfing the net, doing nothing. By chance I ran into the NFB website. I hadn't looked at it in a while, so I decided to navigate around. I found this epic series of kids videos that give you a sneak peak into factories and lets you experience how everyday things are made. I like this one. Here's the link. I want one of the machines in my basement. That would be handy.

Another thing I found was this lobster webcam. This is for when you're REALLY bored, because the lobsters don't do much at all. But here's where you can find it.

And lastly, I will show you this video. I get a kick out of it. It is by the Foo Fighters, from their first album (their best) From before they became sellouts, because they are now.. (in my opinion). Also, the video makes fun of how commercial music videos can be. And it is fun.

This be my blog!

Hello.
My name is Augusta.
As a friend once said, "Augusta is always weirder than you previously thought." I like to be out-there. :P
I think it is also important to be interesting, some of the things I post will be weird and random, but also compelling, and will help you to dig deeper about things that might interest you!

I will now list things that I love.

  1. Music. I will definitely let you know of interesting bands and artists that are intriguing me as of late. I like mainly independent, raw, and different music, and Canadian music is the greatest.
  2. Bicycles. My whole life revolves around bicycles. I ride my bike to school every day, and my dad teaches me cool stuff to learn about bicycle repair. Not to mention, Bikes are the most efficient, environmentally friendly way to travel.
  3. Food. Who doesn't love food? I mean, food is great!! Food supplies your body with the nutrients is needs(nerd) and most of it tastes amazing.
  4. Ukuleles, guitars, basses. I love to play instruments. It is said that the ukulele is the simplest instrument in the world to play. Which is why I love it. I learned uke before guitar, and to all those aspiring guitarists out there, uke is a good place to start. It helps with fingering positions, and callus development. :P
  5. Backpacks. So handy.
  6. Animals: dogs, fish, ALL. My two dogs are... let's call them special.
  7. Rowing
  8. second hand shopping
  9. sunglasses, especially old ones.
  10. record albums.
  11. ART. Art class. artists. Salvadore Dali. Hieronymous Bosch, THE GROUP OF SEVEN. TOM THOMPSON. Emily Carr!
  12. Holland. I love my Dutch roots. Holland is beautiful. Not to mention one of my dream vacation spots!
  13. Canada's east coast. I got roots down there. Halifax is fun. I wanna move there someday.
  14. Science. Considering a future career.
  15. TEA
  16. Sandal tans. They are so hardcore.
  17. Flight of the Conchords. Good TV.
  18. Old stuff. You could call it vintage, retro, I call it old stuff.
  19. Creating. Sewing, felting, making lip balm.
  20. Reading. I am trying to read as many modern classics right now. Fahrenheit 451, Brave New World, The Catcher in the Rye.
  21. BRIGHT COLOURS
