Card it baby, card it.

Look at these humongous hairbrushes! I just bought them! One for each side of my head. Now I can brush my hair in under 1 second.
Ha. Ha. HA. I totally got you.
These aren't hairbrushes, they're handcards. These babies are used for brushing wool in order to make it fluffy enough to felt, or spin into yarn. My parents got them for me for Christmas, after my dad decided to make a mattress out of raw wool (we actually went to the farm...). I stole about a handful before it went into the mattress.

Well, it just so happens that my mom finds this mattress way too lumpy... so guess who gets close to 50 pounds of wool?

I sorted the wool, and only about a third of it was useful. The other portion was matted from when my dad washed it. However, I still got like 20 pounds, which is TONS for me.

I started carding yesterday. Here are some progressive pictures.

It's hard to see the difference, but the pictures after the 'before-after' shot are the ones where the wool had been brushed. It's fluffy and nice and ready to felt. I've got a lot of felting ahead of me. I could probably make an elephant. Life size. Watch me.

I'm preparing a Friday favourites post for this week, we'll see how it works...

Headbang to this. Isn't eighties music the greatest?!

Lots of Exciting Stuff.

Okay, so I kind of just DROVE A CAR FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER. It was really amazing and fun and easy! (aside from staying on the road) And it was an automatic, so most of the work is done for you...

Also, I was reading Jemma's blog and her post on AMAZING SHORT FILMS. It reminded me of how much I love NFB films. I think I already told you to check them out in my first post... so do it! 'Cause there are some really cool Canadian indie films on that site!! Anyway, I remembered these two films, and I think I'll put them on this page, because they're just that awesome.

Or you can check them out on the NFB site, this will be some leeway for you to browse some other videos on the site!!!

Happy Friday!!!!!!!

Obsessions.

So guess who has a new obsession? I DO! I DO!
Lets see if you intuitive types can guess what it is.
Huh? Huh? Huh? Yeah it's yogurt. BUT NOT JUST ANY FLIPPIN' YOGURT!!!
The most creamy, delicious, decadent, better-than-ice-cream-and-I'm-not-kidding yogurt. All other flavours are good, but apple pie is the best. I think. (I've only gone as far as apple pie and cherry...)

I'm advertising again. But Liberte is Canadian. And it makes the most amazing heaven-food in the world. It is based in Quebec, and all the products are manufactured in the Montreal area. Please eat some of their apple pie yogurt. I'm not kidding. It's better than ice cream.

Also, while we're on the subject of apples, I just thought I'd tell you that I found out today that I possess the superhuman power of being able to split an apple in half with my bare hands. I'll post a video later.

And now for some more Montreal goodness. :)

I'm in heaven. (drool)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ART CLOKEY!

So today searching up on google, I came across the google doodle thingy for today. It's Gumby.
Hell yeah.
Okay, so I'll give you the unnecessary play-by-play.

So I clicked on the icon.
Being the naturally curious human being that you know I am.... I looked at the Wikipedia page.
Apparently it's Art Clokey's 90th birthday.
He's the creator of Gumby. The epic 70s claymation show(Well technically it started in the fifties, and ran till '89).

I also found out that he's the creator of other claymation films such as Gumbasia, which was the inspiration for Gumby. Gumbasia is pretty sweet. Especially since it's from 1955, and pretty much paves the way for all other aspiring claymators (is that the right word?). Here, take a peek.

I love the music.

Anyways, goodbye.

This be my blog!

Hello.
My name is Augusta.
As a friend once said, "Augusta is always weirder than you previously thought." I like to be out-there. :P
I think it is also important to be interesting, some of the things I post will be weird and random, but also compelling, and will help you to dig deeper about things that might interest you!

I will now list things that I love.

  1. Music. I will definitely let you know of interesting bands and artists that are intriguing me as of late. I like mainly independent, raw, and different music, and Canadian music is the greatest.
  2. Bicycles. My whole life revolves around bicycles. I ride my bike to school every day, and my dad teaches me cool stuff to learn about bicycle repair. Not to mention, Bikes are the most efficient, environmentally friendly way to travel.
  3. Food. Who doesn't love food? I mean, food is great!! Food supplies your body with the nutrients is needs(nerd) and most of it tastes amazing.
  4. Ukuleles, guitars, basses. I love to play instruments. It is said that the ukulele is the simplest instrument in the world to play. Which is why I love it. I learned uke before guitar, and to all those aspiring guitarists out there, uke is a good place to start. It helps with fingering positions, and callus development. :P
  5. Backpacks. So handy.
  6. Animals: dogs, fish, ALL. My two dogs are... let's call them special.
  7. Rowing
  8. second hand shopping
  9. sunglasses, especially old ones.
  10. record albums.
  11. ART. Art class. artists. Salvadore Dali. Hieronymous Bosch, THE GROUP OF SEVEN. TOM THOMPSON. Emily Carr!
  12. Holland. I love my Dutch roots. Holland is beautiful. Not to mention one of my dream vacation spots!
  13. Canada's east coast. I got roots down there. Halifax is fun. I wanna move there someday.
  14. Science. Considering a future career.
  15. TEA
  16. Sandal tans. They are so hardcore.
  17. Flight of the Conchords. Good TV.
  18. Old stuff. You could call it vintage, retro, I call it old stuff.
  19. Creating. Sewing, felting, making lip balm.
  20. Reading. I am trying to read as many modern classics right now. Fahrenheit 451, Brave New World, The Catcher in the Rye.
  21. BRIGHT COLOURS
  22. CBC!!! NFB!!! NDP!!!
  23. Bugs
  24. Cannibalism (Just kidding)
